Extracurricular and Cultural Capital
At Home from Home we bed ourselves in Cultural Capital. The knowledge, skills, experiences and opportunities that children accumulate over time helps them to succeed in learning both now and in later life.
Practitioners at Home from Home develop children’s cultural capital by providing rich experiences:
- Reading a wide variety of books and stories
- Celebrating different cultures, traditions and festivals
- Exploring music, dance, art and drama
- Cooking and tasting foods from different cultures
- Learning about nature through our allotment, Forest School, Beach School and outdoor play
- Monthly visits to local elderly care homes
- Termly visits from Zoolab delivering ethical , interactive hands-on animal encounters
- Observing the life cycle of the chick, butterfly, frog
- Frequent trips to places nearby to include the lifeboat centres, train stations, library, parks and farms
- Celebrations to include our Leavers picnic, Christmas parties, Mother and Father’s Day gatherings and more
